LOCATION OF POP UP : Level One Fashion Loop, Near Zara
When Tessa turned 19, she worked to save money and left Broome for the city lights of Whadjuk (Perth) on her own. Perth became her home, and she worked many different jobs throughout her 20s.
Tessa loved working with children, so when her daughter was born, she stepped out of her comfort zone and went to university to study teaching and has been a teacher ever since. In 2022 Tessa followed her heart to travel around Australia, to gain a deeper understanding of Australian Culture while gaining inspiration, connection, and education for herself and her children.
Tessa has always seen herself as a creative person who enjoys collaborating. With this deep pull inside of her, she felt there was more she needed to do. So, the tides have changed in her life, and following the passing of her loving grandmother and her father, it gave her the courage to step out and embark on an entrepreneurial journey.
Having moved as a newcomer in the fashion industry, Tessa wants to create a brand that creates comfortable and stylish sleepwear that embraces culture for people who enjoy lounging around not only at home but out and about too.
LaJala is a proudly Indigenous Australian-owned-and-operated business, that designs, manufactures, and retails women’s nightwear. LaJala is inspired by the serenity of the night, the tales we carry, the adventures we experience, and the pure beauty of the landscape we live, walk and her family.
Lajala’s purpose is to provide women with exceptional sleepwear that prioritizes comfort, elegance, inclusivity, and sustainability, ultimately enhancing their overall well-being and promoting a positive and empowering bedtime experience.
