Jalayimiya Swim - NAIDOC showcase
LOCATION OF POP UP : Level One Fashion Loop, near Coach
My name is Brodie George. I’m a Walmajarri woman from Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley, Western Australia. My Aboriginal name is Jalayimiya and my Skin Name is Nakarra, reflecting the deep kinship systems of my people. I’m now based in Perth, where I live and work while staying strongly connected to my Country and culture.
Jalayimiya Swim was born in 2022 from my passion for art, beach culture and celebrating our bodies in all their diversity. I started the brand by transforming my original artworks which are bold, desert-inspired pieces influenced by my Walmajarri heritage into wearable swimwear. What began as a print-on-demand idea quickly evolved into a community-led label with a strong voice for sustainability, representation and cultural storytelling.
I now design every piece with care, using eco-conscious materials and ethical production practices. My goal has always been to create swimwear that honours culture, empowers women and feels like a second skin.
Jalayimiya Swim has been featured at New York Fashion Week and in major publications such as Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. But more importantly, it has become a platform to celebrate Aboriginal beauty, identity, and resilience. Every collection is a love letter to my culture and the powerful women who raised me.
