Karrinyup & FORM seek Artist Expressions of Interest

We're on the look-out with FORM, for talent to help us create an iconic 3D art installation as part of our development art strategy.

The wider art strategy for Karrinyup Shopping Centre will see artworks integrated throughout the centre that celebrate contemporary artistic talent and play a vital role in shaping unique customer experiences.

We are working with WA's leading non-profit arts and cultural organisation, FORM, to create medium- to large-scale public artworks as part of your new look Karrinyup.

This artwork brief calls for artists within Australia to express their interest in developing proposals for a large-scale 3D artwork opportunity located in the new North East Centre Court. This will be a primary iconic artwork within the development, suspended across two levels of a central atrium space.

FORM Project Manager Katrina Longo said the selection panel was looking for artists and design teams to propose ambitious contemporary artworks that reflected the project vision and had strong connections to place, with ties to the Western Australian coastline.

“We have developed two curatorial themes for artists to respond to in the development of their artworks,” Ms Longo said. The concepts of Contours and Awakening are designed to aid artists in creating artworks that link the new centre, the wider community and the landscape surrounding it. Artists may choose to respond to one or both of these themes, which are inspired by the beauty of WA’s coastline.”

“The form and materials of the selected artwork will complement and enhance the centre’s architectural design, including sloping contoured ceilings and plentiful natural light that will flow through the skylights of the double-height void,” added Ms Longo.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open, with applications closing on Monday, 26 August, with the successful artist to be announced later this year. Artists who would like to make an Expression of Interest (EOI) can email FORM’s Art Consultancy Team at commissions@form.net.au for further information.
